Therapeutic Massage

The focus of this massage modality is stress reduction for improved health and wellbeing. The massage style is slow and flowing to help reduce stress, improve circulation and movement. Therapeutic massage provides deep relaxation allowing your mind and body to recharge and rejuvenate.

Remedial Massage

When muscles become knotted, tense or damaged remedial massage provides a treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. The practitioner endeavours to identify the original biomechanical dysfunction, thus encouraging relief from the pain or tension of the soft tissue.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is specifically tailored for recovery from sporting injuries or injury prevention. It is not meant to be relaxing and can become quite vigorous at time and can benefit anyone who exercises. Here at Alchemy Health, Cold Laser or pneumatic pumps can also be combined within the treatment to more quickly reduce inflammation and pain after sport or exercise.

Pregnancy Massage

This is a specially designed massage sequence that can relieve tension and discomfort, enabling you to feel calm and relaxed. Pregnancy can be both emotionally fulfilling and a demanding, your body and emotions are careering through changes that make you achy, nauseous, fatigued, nervous and sometimes uncomfortable.

A pregnancy massage will leave you feeling nurtured and relaxed, it may also help headaches, aching legs and feet. We may also suggest medical compression stocking to help relieve those tired legs.

Oncology Massage

Oncology massage is 'mindful massage' focusing on eliciting the relaxation response in clients who have cancer, are  in treatment for cancer or who have a history of cancer. Oncology massage can improve bowel function and lessen the unwanted side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Medical research shows that the benefits of oncology massage can continue for several days after the massage experience.

Medical Taping

Kinesiology tape can be used in various injuries and complaints. It accelerates the self-healing ability of the body, providing support, stability and gives no movement restriction. The tape treatment is part of a total treatment of a health care professional. The kinesiology tape applied with a different application can also be used to promote lymphatic flow therefore helping to reduce swelling. The tape is waterproof and can be worn for several days, it is therefore beneficial for swelling in warmer climates and travel.

Naturopathy

Also know as 'Natural Medicine' it's founded on a belief in the power of the body to heal itself.  Naturopaths believe that the body's natural state is one of equilibrium, which can be disturbed by poor dietary habits, sleep problems, long term physical and emotional stress and unhealthy lifestyle choices. Naturopaths look for the underlying causes of the problem, rather than treating the symptoms alone, taking into consideration medical and family history. A combination of diet and lifestyle changes are used to stimulate the healing process, to find balance and restore vitality.

Herbal Medicine

Over 80% of the world's population relies on herbs for health. Many laboratory-produced drugs are derived from plants, but herbal remedies differ from conventional medicines in using parts of the whole plant rather than isolating single active ingredients, reducing unwanted side effects.  Herbalism is a gentle, holistic medical system that seeks to restore the body's self-healing mechanism and can be used for most illnesses, including hormonal imbalances, digestive issues and infections.

Ortho-Bionomy

Ortho-Bionomy is a non-invasive system of healing which is helpful in addressing many pain and stress conditions. After receiving Ortho-Bionomy sessions clients report experiencing pain relief, increased range of movement, greater ease of motion, better postural balance, increased relaxation, faster recovery time from injury and an increased sense of wellbeing.

Scar Tissue Release

Scars are areas of fibrous tissue (fibrosis) that replace normal skin after injury. A scar results from the biological process of wound repair in the skin and other tissues of the body. Thus, scarring is a natural part of the healing process. With the exception of very minor lesions, every wound (e.g., after accident, disease, or surgery) results in some degree of scarring. Sometimes these lesions can cause pain and movement restriction. Scar tissue release combines gentle stretching, holding and mobilising techniques to release these lesions for pain free movement and greater functionality.

Emmett Technique

Emmett is a quick natural pain relief technique. It is  safe and simple muscle release therapy used to address pain and discomfort, improve body movement and can restore a positive emotional state.

Foot and Hand Reflexology

Reflexology is a holist therapy that is both simple and complex. It incorporates the study of the body that is able to reflect all other parts in order to bring about healing of the whole. Reflexology may be focused on different parts of the body depending on the condition and desired outcomes. It is relaxing but at the same time therapeutic.

Pressure to different points on the feet, hands and ears will bring about changes in the whole body depending on the reflexes treated. Generally best for treatment of stress related conditions as well as normalisation of body function (eg. reflux, constipation, fertility)

Facial Reflexology

Facial reflexology is a therapeutic method in which stimulation of zones and points of the face are utilized to alleviate health conditions in other parts of the body particularly in the nervous system. Safe for all ages and perfect for Headaches, Sinus congestion, Neurology, Sleep disorders.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymph Drainage is a gentle massage that encourages the elimination of metabolic waste  by the stimulation of the lymphatic system (garbage disposal system) for improved health and immune function. It assists with a range of lymphatic conditions such as, sinusitis, swelling after surgery, lymphoedema, lipoedema, fibromyalgia and general well being.

Lipoedema management

Lipedema is a chronic condition that presents as symmetrical accumulation of fat in the subcutaneous tissue with almost exclusive occurrence in women. The goal of conservative therapy is to aid in disease management and address the symptoms associated with lipedema. It is critical to note that although the treatments below are what patients and caregivers employ to address lipedema, limited research is available to understand why certain treatments are effective or ineffective for patients.

The approach for management is multifaceted and includes exercise, healthy eating, compression therapy, manual lymph drainage and cold laser.

Pneumatic Pump Therapy

Pneumatic pumps are pressure controlled devices, based on Manual Lymphatic Drainage techniques. Any lymphatic conditions concerning swelling or venous issues as well as pain after exercise can be treated with pneumatic pumps. Benefits include: shorter treatment time therefore more cost effective. Leasing is available for home use which allows for greater compliance and therefore better results.

Low Level Light Therapy

Also known as 'Cold Laser', this light therapy offers safe and natural 'pain relief' for muscular and arthritic pain. Clinical trials indicate 'cold laser' acts on the DNA to promote post-operative and post-traumatic healing, accelerating recovery through improved immune response, reducing inflammation and pain. The Laser scanner and hand held devices used at Alchemy are also used in the treatment of Lymphoedema.
